Premier League week 2 Predictions
The first week of the Premier League was exciting with some major upsets happening during the week including Fulham drawing Liverpool and Bournemouth defeating Aston Villa. My record during week one was 6-4 and I'm hoping to improve this week with my predictions. Here are my predictions for the week:
Everton @ Aston Villa
Both clubs lost on opening weekend with Aston Villa losing 2-0 to Bournemouth and Everton losing 1-0 to Chelsea so they are both looking for a result in this match. Last season Aston Villa won on both occasions they played and they outscored Everton 4-0 during the two games. I think Villa should get the result at home against Everton this weekend.
Prediction: 2-0 Aston Villa
Leeds United @ Southampton
Leeds United were able to get a 2-1 victory at home against Wolves while Southampton lost 4-1 against Tottenham. Southampton were able to win 1-0 against Leeds United last season when they played at home and the other game ended in a 1-1 draw. I'm still not convinced with Leeds United and Southampton have some solid premier league proven players to watch out for in this match-up. The game will be close but I think Che Adams will breakthrough for the winning goal.
Prediction: 1-0 Southampton
Leicester City @ Arsenal
An opening day 2-0 victory for Arsenal against Crystal Palace while Leicester City ended up drawing 2-2 with Brentford at home. Arsenal won on both occasions last season 2-0 against Leicester City. With all the transfer rumors continuing to surround Leicester City and the ongoing question marks, I think this is a very favorable home match-up for Arsenal.
Prediction: 3-1 Arsenal
Newcastle @ Brighton
This is such a good second weekend game as both Newcastle and Brighton are hoping to continue their momentum after strong opening weekend performances. Newcastle dominated Nottingham Forest on route to a 2-0 victory while Brighton traveled to Old Trafford and defeated Manchester United 2-1. Last season they tied their match in Brighton 1-1 and Newcastle beat Brighton 2-1 at home. Brighton is 4-5-1 in Premier League match-ups against Newcastle.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Bournemouth @ Manchester City
Yes, Bournemouth did manage to earn a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa on opening weekend but they are traveling to Manchester to play the best club in the Premier League. Manchester City is a perfect 10-0-0 against Bournemouth in the Premier League and this match could get ugly.
Prediction: 4-0 Manchester City
Fulham @ Wolves
A disappointing road loss for Wolves while Fulham managed to earn a 2-2 draw at home against Liverpool. Aleksandar Mitrovic proved that he can score in the Premier League and Wolves need to get this match under control and earn some points in the Premier League.
Prediction: 1-0 Wolves
Manchester United @ Brentford
Christian Eriksen returns to Brentford but this match-up should be viewed as a must win for Manchester United in the early half of the season. They dominated Brentford in both games last season, out scoring them 6-1 in two games. This could go a couple of ways and I’m tempted to pick Brentford in this match-up but I believe Manchester United will find a result.
Prediction: 2-1 Manchester United
West Ham @ Nottingham Forest
Both clubs were scoreless on opening weekend with West Ham losing to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest losing to Newcastle. These two clubs haven’t played against each other since 2014 and Nottingham Forest has actually earned three draws in the last four home matches against West Ham. West Ham should get the three points however as they have the talent and experience.
Prediction: 3-1 West Ham
Tottenham @ Chelsea
This is the match to watch during week two as Premier League fans finally get to see how strong Tottenham will match-up against another powerhouse club in Chelsea. Last season Chelsea played Tottenham four times and they won on each occasion while out scoring the Spurs 8-0. I believe a lot of people are writing off Chelsea this season but this feels like a match where Chelsea’s defense just stands out.
Prediction: 1-0 Chelsea
Crystal Palace @ Liverpool
Liverpool need to start Darwin Nunez and they need to earn three points after a disappointing draw against Fulham. Crystal Palace lost to Arsenal on opening day and they unfortunately have to play against another tough team.
Prediction: 3-0 Liverpool
