Bundesliga week 4 Predictions:
I’m not even sure if my predictions really mean much heading into week four as I had another poor week of predictions going 3-6 in week three. Upsets continue to happen in the league during the early part of the season including RB Leipzig losing to Union Berlin, Leverkusen failing to get a result and Borussia Dortmund losing to Werder Bremen. I desperately need a bounce back week for my predictions this weekend. 11-16 overall (3-6 in week three picks)
VfL Bochum @ Freiburg
Heading into matchday four, Bochum remain one of only two teams in the Bundesliga that have yet to earn a point in the standings and they lost 7-0 to Bayern Munich last weekend. Freiburg were able to earn a 1-0 road victory against Stuttgart this past weekend despite Stuttgart controlling most of the game. These clubs are fairly evenly matched historically and they split the regular season games last season with the home side winning on each occasion. Bochum are still struggling with a few injuries in their line-up and I believe Freiburg will win convincingly.
Prediction: 3-1 Freiburg
VfL Wolfsburg @ RB Leipzig
These two clubs have been some of the most disappointing sides during the opening weeks of the Bundesliga. Last weekend Wolfsburg dominated possession against Schalke at home but they lacked any sort of finishing in the final third and the game ended 0-0. In a similar story, Leipzig dominated possession against Union Berlin and they even had 13 opportunities from corner kicks but the game ended in a 2-1 victory for Union Berlin. Last season the home side won on each occasion, both teams are desperate for offense but I think Wolfsburg are struggling just a bit more and Leipzig will get the victory at home.
Prediction: 2-0 RB Leipzig
Bayer Leverkusen @ FSV Mainz 05
Leverkusen are struggling in the early few games of the season without their star player Florian Wirtz as they lost 3-0 to Hoffenheim over the weekend. They have only scored one goal in the three games and they are facing a team in Mainz that has been terrific defensively to open the season. I think Leverkusen will continue to struggle and Mainz will scrap for a close victory against the big German club.
Prediction: 1-0 Mainz
FC Augsburg @ Hoffenheim
The season has been strange for Augsburg as they have lost their first two home games but did win their only road game of the season so far against Bayer Leverkusen. Following a tough opening day game against Monchengladbach where Hoffenheim played with 10 men for the majority of the match, they have been solid in their last two games winning both of them. Hoffenheim dominated Augsburg last season and I expect Hoffenheim to win this one comfortably.
Prediction: 3-1 Hoffenheim
Borussia Dortmund @ Hertha Berlin
Last weekend was a tough battle with Werder Bremen and Dortmund collapsed in the final ten minutes of the match as they ended up losing their first game of the season 3-2. Hertha Berlin lost 1-0 to Monchengladbach over the weekend and remain winless on the season. Dortmund are struggling with some injuries up front but Karim Adeyemi may make his return this game and the club is much more sound defensively then Hertha Berlin.
Prediction: 3-0 Borussia Dortmund
Union Berlin @ Schalke
Union Berlin have yet to lose a game this season as they earned a 2-1 victory against RB Leipzig last weekend while Schalke was involved in an uneventful 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg. Historically Schalke is 1-3-0 against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga and the last three times these two sides have met it has ended in a draw. Union Berlin should be slightly favored in this match-up but I'm going to sit on the fence with a draw.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Monchengladbach @ Bayern Munich
The German champions are perfect to begin the season as they have scored 15 goals through three games including a 7-0 victory against Bochum last weekend. Monchengladbach have opened the season strong with a 2-1-0 record and they are living up to expectations so far this season. Last season Monchengladbach was Bayern Munich’s kryptonite it seemed with a 2-1-0 record against the club including a 5-0 victory during the DFB Pokal. This should be an exciting game but I think Bayern should earn the victory.
Prediction: 2-1 Bayern Munich
VfB Stuttgart @ FC Koln
Last week FC Koln fought for a hard earned 1-1 road draw against Eintracht Frankfurt while Stuttgart lost 1-0 to Freiburg. Four of the six games for these two clubs have ended in draws this season. FC Koln are in better form though and they have a 22-14-10 record against Stuttgart when playing them at home. I was going to place this down as another draw but I’ll take a risk and give Koln the victory.
Prediction: 1-0 FC Koln
Eintracht Frankfurt @ Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen are making an impact in every single game this season as they hold a 1-2-0 record and are coming off a monumental comeback victory against Borussia Dortmund this past weekend. They have been one of the highest scoring teams in the Bundesliga with seven goals scored in 3 games while Eintracht Frankfurt are winless with another draw last weekend. Everything in this match-up is pointing towards a Werder Bremen victory which is exactly why I’m going with Eintracht Frankfurt in a high scoring thriller.
Prediction: 3-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
